WISDOM B

As an artist I am inspired by the rich diversity of my nation’s culture. For me, culture is music writing, the songs of our struggles; creating melodies for our social rituals of achievements and celebrations; and how we blend our collective voices into a chorus of national pride and self-respect. A culture that makes its own music will dance in its own victories and drown out the volume of its social setbacks through the its collective spirit of self-determination and action.

In 2017, my song Seda Seda welcomed me into our nation’s listening consciousness and enjoying steps.

This was followed up in 2018, with Cockroach Arata, which convinced me that our Nation wanted to adopt and celebrate me as one of their own.

I have toured throughout Salone because music is where the people live and I am one of the many voices that sing to them about their living experiences they want to hear. Songs like the collaborative 2012 election song ‘Save Mama Salone’ expressed the desire of our people for drastic community and societal improvement, and transformative change.

My 2016 song, ‘Mama Look Beleh’ was one of many by other artists that brought national attention to the social scourge of unwanted teenage pregnancy.

I believe the people’s music is long lasting memory music that invites future generations to learn and celebrate the best aspects of their customs and traditions.  It is a music, which acts as signposts giving meaning, understanding, and relevance to their struggles for a productive and striving culture. Through my music, I am a willing privileged son and servant of our people’s vision and expectations.
